Core Game Mechanics Explained
Before the round you set a stake and choose how many mines to hide on the board, from 1 to 24. Then you reveal tiles one at a time. Each safe tile, shown as a star, raises the payout. After any safe pick you can cash out and collect the current amount, or keep going. If you reveal a mine, the stake is lost. When the round ends, all mine positions are shown.
There is no timer and no shared round with other players. The game lasts as long as you keep clicking. The mine positions are fixed before your first click, and every round is independent, so past boards tell you nothing about the next one.
The math is fully defined by two formulas. For n mines and k safe picks, the survival chance is C(25 - n, k) / C(25, k), and the payout is 0.97 x C(25, k) / C(25 - n, k), rounded down to two decimals and capped at 10,000x the stake. Some reference values:
| Mines | Picks | Survival | Payout |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 96.0% | 1.01x |
| 3 | 1 | 88.0% | 1.10x |
| 3 | 3 | 67.0% | 1.44x |
| 3 | 5 | 49.6% | 1.95x |
| 5 | 4 | 38.3% | 2.53x |
| 5 | 7 | 16.1% | 6.01x |
| 24 | 1 | 4.0% | 24.25x |
What Makes Mines Stand Out From Other Casino Games
Simplicity of design. The rules fit in a few sentences. There are no paylines, scatter symbols or bonus rounds to learn. A new player understands the whole game after one round.
Real player choice. In a slot you press spin and wait. In Mines you decide after every safe tile whether to take the money or risk it for more. Unlike crash games such as Aviator, there is no shared multiplier running on a clock; the next step happens only when you click.
You set the risk level. One mine with a few picks gives frequent small wins. Many mines or many picks give rare large wins. The RTP stays at 97% across every combination, so this choice changes variance, not the expected return.
Transparency through provably fair technology. Spribe publishes a hash of the server seed before the round. The mine positions are derived from a SHA-512 hash of the server seed combined with client seeds. After the round you can check it with the verification icon in the game history.
Fast, self-paced rounds. A round can take a few seconds or as long as you like. Auto play can repeat a chosen tile selection for a set number of rounds, with optional stops on a profit or loss limit.
RTP Comparison With Traditional Casino Games
| Game | Typical RTP | Mines RTP |
|---|---|---|
| European Roulette | 97.3% | 97% |
| American Roulette | 94.74% | 97% |
| Baccarat (Banker Bet) | 98.94% | 97% |
| Blackjack (Basic Strategy) | 99%+ | 97% |
| Online Slots | Varies by title | 97% |
Mines sits close to European roulette and above American roulette. Blackjack with correct basic strategy and the banker bet in baccarat return more. Slot RTPs differ from game to game and are shown in each slot's information screen, so compare that figure with the fixed 97% of Mines. A 3% edge still means the house wins over time: on 1,000 units wagered, the expected return is about 970 units.
Who Is Mines Best Suited For?
Mines is a good fit if you:
- Enjoy short rounds and quick decisions
- Want to choose your own risk level on every round
- Value being able to verify each round after it ends
- Prefer a fixed, published RTP over games where the figure is hard to find
- Like playing at your own pace without a timer
Mines may not be ideal if you:
- Prefer slow, strategy-heavy games such as poker or blackjack
- Want themed bonus rounds and special features
- Are looking for a positive-expectation game (no casino game offers this)
- Want a social game where you see other players in the same round
